Resistance is Gathering
Fuel for Our Work
Greetings, dear friends. It’s been several months since I last posted here. I took a deep dive into the dark spaces in my inner landscape, where insight and healing have awaited. I’m just beginning to surface, renewed and grateful to retrieve those long hidden gifts.
Like most of you, I’m sure, I have followed the shocking dismantling of democratic institutions and values, perhaps most especially respect for the Constitution and the Rule of Law. I have watched myself go from disbelief to amazement - can this really be happening here in the US? - to anxiety and now deep fear. We are now a Rogue State, a Fascist State in all but name, and a menace both domestically and globally.
As distinguished jurist Robert Hubbell argues day after day (in his Substack “Today’s Edition Newsletter” you should subscribe to and read every day!) “We the People” still have the power to stop this destruction and reverse course. I agree. Mass mobilization is essential. Yesterday, he said, there must be 50 million protesters out on the streets these next weekends. That is certainly possible.
In addition to relying on Hubbell for my daily dose of sanity, I add Heather Cox Richardson’s Substack “Letter from an American,” in which she grounds the current moment in our 250 year history of self-governance. For the largest frame, I read Timothy Snyder’s Substack “Thinking about..” on the global phenomenon of fascist dictatorships, especially its many European versions. The fourth is Rebecca Solnit’s stunning essays in “Meditation in an Emergency.” These four provide accurate, truthful reporting and analysis missing from mainline American media. They are my essential support system, providing me with grounding, deep understanding, clarity, and encouragement.
I hope to support and encourage your work within this rising resistance movement. Offer your skills and creativity! Engage a friend, and then more. I will urge you to continue to care for yourself and to care for others, as we navigate these extraordinary times.
Ask around. What are folks you know doing? Can you join them?
If you can,, invite a friend and get out on the street this weekend, and next. Feed the momentum. We can do this, “We the People can do this!”
See you there, and see you later, We are definitely on our way!
